Tyrosinase inhibitors can inhibit melanin synthesis, and can improve the skin due to damage caused by excessive pigmentation, but not reversible blocking melanin formation would interfere with the biological response of normal healthy skin, thereby causing serious adverse effects (such as the : hydroquinone). Kojic acid and arbutin are safe, but the whitening effect is not visible. We provide a more secure, more effective reversible tyrosinase inhibitor - deoxyarbutin (abbreviated: D-Arbutin). Deoxyarbutin is developed with QSAR techniques, which provides the theoretical support at the molecular level for secure and potent whitening. In the experiments of animal and human skin, D-Arbutin demonstrated potent reversible inhibiting tyrosinase. The study showed that deoxyarbutin is to inhibit tyrosinase competitively, decrease the producing amount of melanin and overcome the pigmentation conditions caused by irritation. Deoxy arbutin has a strong skin permeability and excellent affinity with tyrosinase. In the experiment of inhibiting tyrosinases activity, deoxyarbutin dominates the most effective. It is 10 times more effective than hydroquinone, 350 times more effective than arbutin, 150 times more effective than kojic acid. In the experiment of cell suspension cultures(in the condition of 95% cells surviving), the application mount of deoxyarbutin is 4 times more than that of hydroquinone. That means the former is more safety than the latter.
